Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about JAMAS.

How do I enroll my child in the Weekend Islamic School?
Enrollment opens twice per year — August for Fall semester and January for Spring semester. Visit the school office on Saturdays between 10 AM and 1 PM, or fill out the contact form and we will send you the enrollment packet. Tuition is $75 per semester. Scholarships are available for families experiencing financial hardship.
Do I have to be Muslim to attend the halaqa or counseling services?
Our Adult Halaqa Program is open to everyone interested in Islamic studies, but it is taught from a Muslim perspective. Our Family Counseling services are available to all community members regardless of faith, and no one is turned away for inability to pay.
How do I donate zakat or sadaqa?
We accept donations via PayPal, Zelle, credit card, or check. All donations are tax-deductible (JAMAS is a 501(c)(3)). Quarterly disbursement reports are published on our website, and a full annual audit is available upon request.
How can I volunteer at JAMAS?
We rely on volunteers for weekend school teaching assistants, event coordination, interfaith outreach, and administrative support. Fill out the contact form with "Volunteer" in the subject line, and our community outreach team will reach out.
Where are you located?
Our main campus is in Richmond, Virginia. We operate two school campuses in the Greater Richmond area. Address details are provided when you contact us for security reasons. We host regular open houses for new families.
Can you perform nikkah ceremonies?
Yes — our licensed family counselors are also qualified to perform nikkah ceremonies and marriage preparation counseling. Please reach out at least 30 days in advance to schedule.
